Since my appeal last year, Sal Esquivel has recently produced some
great Atari versions of the tunes (and sound effects) in the game using
Raster
Music Tracker. Over the course of only a few weeks or so, he's recreated
every tune and jingle in the game. Considering the musical limitations
of the Atari, they have worked out better than even I had hoped for.
I couldn't have done such a good job myself - thanks Sal! The songs
have been cleverly designed to work with either a normal Pokey sound
chip in 4 track Mono, or in 8 track Stereo if a dual Pokey upgrade is
installed. As it's a sophisticated music player, Raster Music Tracker
can use a lot of processor time, especially when playing the 8 track
Stereo songs. The game could sometimes slow down noticeably in this
situation, so 8 track Stereo may have to be included as an selectable
option. The Raster Music Tracker code is now working in the game, and
I've been tweaking it a bit to make it play more nicely with my own
code.
With Sal's permission, I've added his complete soundtrack
for the game in Download. I've also added
the original arcade version of the main theme tune, to show how close
he's managed to get.
The game has been moved over to use the Atarimax
flash cartridge format now. The flash programmable nature of this Cartridge
should make it easier for people (including myself), to be able to run
it on some real hardware.
